A World of Flavor. Ethnic Jewish Cooking Classes: Sigd

Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 5:30 pm EST

_Note: As we continue to stand with Israel during this devastating and tragic
time, we recognize that it is essential for us to continue to come together as
a Jewish community. Any opportunity to strengthen our Jewish bond, with each
other and with the Jewish people in Israel and around the world, is important
now more than ever. _

The rich tapestry of the Jewish people is filled with influences as varied as
the places where Jewish life exists. Please join our Shinshinim for a special
Gerson Innovation Fund series of cooking classes that explore the tastes of
Jewish cultures from around the world.

First up, Ethiopia and the holiday of Sigd.

Sigd is celebrated by Ethiopian Jews on the 29th day of the Hebrew month of
Cheshvan and signifies acceptance of the Torah. As most of the Ethiopian
Jewish community has made Aliyah, Sigd was recognized as a state holiday in
Israel in 2008.

Our hands on vegan cooking class (kosher style) will be led by Chef Helina
Melaku, owner of the Ethiopian food pop-up, Konjo Me. Chef Melaku will share
more about Sigd, help us prepare traditional Sigd recipes and lead us in a
traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

**Due to cooking space limitations this class will be offered twice. Choose
your preferred time when registering.** Please register by November 6 to save
your spot.

Be sure to keep an eye out for future Ethnic Jewish cooking classes in this
series. Details to come.

**Note: This event is kosher style and vegan, however it will not be
supervised by the Vaad. **
