Ethnic Jewish Cooking Class. Indian.

Thursday, January 18 at 5:00 pm EST

Jewish culture comes in many forms… and flavors!

Get a taste of India’s Bene Israel community and learn about the Malida. A
ritual passed on for hundreds of years, the Malida is a special gathering to
pray and offer a traditional sweet dessert — called Melida — to the prophet
Elijah for thanks. Including for Tu B’Shvat, Israel’s New Year of the Trees.

Indian-Israeli Amy Ostroff will speak about the Indian Jewish community,
culture and traditions. Then our community Shinshinim will teach us about the
Malida celebration and show us how to prepare our own Malida dish made from
sweetened poha (rice), coconuts, dates and fruits.

Celebrate a unique Indian Jewish practice and highlight the friendship between
Detroit’s Jewish and Hindu communities, as JCRC/AJC allies from the Hindu
Community Relations Council of Michigan will be joining us. Refreshments will
also be served.

Space is limited so please register today.
